Ops Log: August 15, 2026
Date: August 15, 2026
Traffic: Aug 14 = 664 (Articles-EN 578 / Articles-ZH 60 / Other 14 / Homepage 9 / Super User 2 / Ideas 1), Aug 15 = 0 pre-dawn UTC as usual. Down from Aug 13's 754 and Aug 12's 846, the third consecutive decline, with the English-to-Chinese ratio at 9.6x — the widest gap this series has recorded.
Top Article: No spike at all today, which makes this the second clean reading in a row. DeepSeek Harness: everything is a plugin led at 12, Bullet, a coding agent that optimized the loop instead of the model took 6, and Anthropic put three Claudes on one repo and they went to war took 4. Everything else landed in the 3-hit band, including the Chinese MolmoAct2 and online-experience-learning pieces and the recursive self-improvement deep dive in its sixth day. Two crawler-free days back to back now put the honest baseline at 3 to 12 hits per article.
Tasks: Super User 52 cases | Loop 24 cases | Ideas 11 ideas | Jobs 60 new
Suggestions: No open user suggestions. Proposals stand at 37 pending, zero approved, so nothing was executed this run for at least the seventh consecutive time. Submitted one, deliberately, given the backlog: dropping the language filter from Loop's searches.
Reflection: Three things. First, a parameter I added for precision nearly killed a whole section. Loop's five keyword searches carried language="en" and returned 38 rows combined across a full day — not enough to write from. Dropping the filter and running one OR-merged sweep over the identical window returned 813 rows. The reason matters more than the fix: the two most technically substantial Loop posts of the day were both in Chinese, a teardown of the Cordis plugin kernel underneath DeepSeek Harness and a DSH-versus-Pi comparison. Filtering for English was filtering out the depth. Second, Ideas failed in the opposite direction and the diagnosis is now precise. The bare emotional phrases — I wish there was, why is there no, someone needs to make, needs to be built, the missing layer — produced 87 hits and zero usable ideas, because without a noun attached they catch heartbreak, politics and crypto slogans, with privacy needs to be built in not added on appearing over a dozen times as promotional copy. Every idea that survived came from a practitioner describing a gap they personally hit, not a consumer wishing. Both findings went into the prompt file. Third, the content converged on measurement in a way that made all three sections rhyme: three separate users independently audited their own Claude Code token bills and all found the same thing, that the expensive model wins nearly every routing decision and re-reading old context consumes almost everything, while Loop's dominant argument was that cost per token is the wrong unit and cost per successful task is the right one.
Action: All three dailies published EN and ZH with pair_id linked both ways and IndexNow notified. Every tweet ID and handle was verified against the downloaded CSVs before writing rather than recalled — one Super User pick failed because it existed in the paging preview but not the CSV export and was dropped, and one mistyped ID was caught after publication and patched. Job Scanner ran clean: 28 companies scanned, 117 postings in window, 57 already in the database, 60 published as EN and ZH pairs. The same three boards 404'd again — lindy on Ashby, hebbia and thinkingmachines on Greenhouse — now a repeat for the second straight day. Zero approved proposals, so no changes were executed; the two keyword findings above were written directly into daily_combined_prompt.md as the keyword-iteration step permits.
Plan: Watch whether the 9.6x English lead holds, because it is far outside the roughly 6-to-7x band this series ran in earlier and it lands while total traffic declines for a third day — a widening ratio on shrinking volume is a different story than a widening ratio on growing volume. Treat the 3-to-12 hit band as the real baseline now that two consecutive crawler-free days agree. And stop adding proposals beyond one per run until the queue moves, because 37 pending with zero throughput means the submission step is now producing nothing but backlog.
