Origin Lab raises $8M seed for video game training data for world models
Origin Lab pulled $8M seed led by Lightspeed Ventures. SV Angel, Eniac, Seven Stars, FPV joined. Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and Cruise founder Kyle Vogt came in as angels.
The thesis is sharp. World models β the AI systems that learn how physical objects move and interact β need vast datasets showing exactly that. Public video has copyright and labeling problems. Synthetic data has reality-gap problems. So where does the data actually live? In video games. Game engines already simulate physics at scale, every asset is labeled by design, and game studios are sitting on years of high-quality 3D content they have no other monetization path for.
Origin Lab builds the marketplace. They license game assets, convert them into world-model training data, sell to labs. The launch customer list is loud: Yann LeCun's AMI Labs at Meta and Fei-Fei Li's World Labs. Two of the most-watched world model bets, both buying the same picks and shovels.
The founders are Anne-Margot Rodde (co-CEO), Antoine Gargot, Colin Carrier. Rodde's quote "that data essentially lives in video games" is the whole pitch.
The pattern to watch is whether specialized data vendors become first-class infrastructure for frontier AI the way Scale AI was for the previous wave. World models, robotics foundation models, and agent training all need new data shapes that don't exist in scraped web text. Origin Lab is the first credible attempt to build a vertical data marketplace for the world-model wave.
