Robinhood just opened your brokerage account to AI agents

Robinhood turned on Agentic Trading this week, letting an AI agent read your portfolio, form a strategy, and place stock trades on your behalf. It is a beta and stocks-only for now, with options, crypto, futures, event contracts, and prediction markets promised soon. This is not a research demo or a sandbox toy. It is a public, regulated brokerage handing agents the keys to real money.

The design is the interesting part, because the obvious version of this is terrifying and Robinhood did not ship the obvious version. You do not hand the agent your account. You create a separate account for the agent, fund a dedicated wallet, and the agent can only touch the balance you pre-loaded into it. Every trade fires a notification, and some trades surface a preview you have to approve before they execute. In other words you give the agent an allowance, not your wallet, which is exactly the safety pattern this whole category has been groping toward.

The plumbing is MCP. Robinhood exposes a server, and any agent that speaks the protocol can connect, with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, the Codex CLI, and Cursor named out of the box. Robinhood also shipped an agentic credit card, a Visa Gold Card with a user-set spending limit and optional manual approval, so an agent can buy as well as trade.

Step back and this is MCP arriving in mainstream consumer finance, not a whitepaper about it. The agent economy needs rails for agents to actually hold and move money under human-set limits, and a household brokerage name building those rails on an open protocol is a bigger signal than most of the agent demos that get more attention. The era of agents that only talk is ending. This is one that can spend.
