Cognition Hits $26B as Devin Hits $492M ARR

Cognition just raised about $1B at a $25B pre-money / $26B post-money valuation, co-led by Lux Capital, General Catalyst and 8VC, with Ribbit, Atreides, Layer Global joining and Elad Gil, Founders Fund, Soma, Omri Casspi reupping. Eight months ago the post was $10.2B. The valuation more than doubled.

The number behind the number is $492M annualized revenue run-rate, with enterprise Devin usage growing 50% month-over-month for six straight months. Mercedes-Benz, NASA, Goldman Sachs and Santander are the names being dropped. Devin is no longer the demo that fluffed a benchmark — it is the autonomous engineer that big enterprises are paying real money to leave running.

Read it as a market verdict on the agent-coding category specifically. Cursor sells human-in-the-loop. Devin sells human-out-of-the-loop. The fact that money is now pouring into the second curve, at a multiple of last year's price, says enterprises have stopped buying assistants and started buying labor. Cognition bought what was left of Windsurf last year, and the combined hand — Devin plus the Windsurf IDE assets — is now the leading bet on "the contractor model" of AI coding.
