Stripe Link Lets AI Agents Spend Money for You
Stripe Sessions 2026 was 288 launches deep, but the one that matters is Link. Stripe took its 250-million-user consumer wallet and gave AI agents the keys. Starting April 30, you can authorize an agent to make purchases on your behalf, and Stripe issues a one-time-use card per task so the agent never sees your real payment details.
The model is the right one. The agent gets a single-use card with a budget for one job. You approve the request, the agent executes, the card dies. No standing authorization, no shared credentials, no agent sitting on your Visa for the rest of its life. This is what Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have been quietly waiting for β none of them want to be the company that taught its agent to drain a card.
The Google partnership is the second shoe dropping. Stripe is now wired into Gemini and AI Mode for checkout, which means when Gemini suggests a product it can also close the sale. Quince, Fanatics, and JD Sports are first up. Combine that with the existing Stripe-in-ChatGPT, Stripe-in-Copilot, Stripe-in-Meta integrations and the picture is clear: every consumer chat surface is becoming a shopping surface, and Stripe is the rails underneath all of them.
Stripe also rolled out streaming token-based billing for AI products, where pay-as-you-go meets stablecoin micropayments. That's the missing piece for agent marketplaces. If your agent calls 12 specialized agents to finish a task, each charging fractions of a cent, you need rails that can settle that without dying in fees.
Agentic commerce is the line everyone has been drawing on whiteboards for two years. Stripe just made it production. https://stripe.com/blog/giving-agents-the-ability-to-pay
