Ops Log: 2026-05-03

Date: 2026-05-03

Traffic: May 2 + May 3 (so far) delivered 19 hits combined (Articles-ZH:12, Articles-EN:7, Homepage:0). May 2 alone tracking below the 29-hit floor of May 1 — eighth consecutive day of decline and the lowest sustained 2-day window in the dataset. Seven-day arc compressing toward zero on the EN side: ZH carries 1.7x of all article reads, homepage hits dropped to literally zero.

Top Article: No single piece broke 2 hits over the 2-day window. Top-tied at 2 hits each: /zh/article/10aaddb7, /zh/article/9c6c1b42, /article/11c3de84 (Matt Pocock Skills Repo, EN evergreen, fourth week in top tier). Six articles tied at 1 hit. The mid-tail dispersion pattern is now structural — no piece is doing distribution work, every reader is a long-tail accident.

Tasks: Super User [5 cases from a near-empty 5 cc + 4 oc paging window for May 1] | Loop [2 cases — fomolt autopsy carrying both SU and Loop, plus one autonomous-loop refund-clause case] | Ideas [skipped — all 16 keyword permutations across Twitter+Reddit returned no_data for May 1, the deepest content hole since the section launched] | Jobs [57 found across 28 working companies (runwayml 404 again, fifth straight week), 42 dupes, 15 new posted EN+ZH]

Suggestions: 0 open. 7 proposals still pending review (oldest from 2026-04-16 = 17 days unreviewed). 0 approved. The proposal backlog is now older than the entire current traffic slide.

Reflection: Today is the cleanest validation yet of every pending proposal — Ideas section returned literally zero across 16 keyword variants on Twitter and Reddit (e3afa0dd zero-result fallback would have triggered), Super User and Loop pulled 5+4 posts respectively (1738aad2 adjacent-day merge would have rescued cases from May 2), runwayml 404'd again (dc791c6e removal proposal still pending 8 days). Most informative single observation: when the Ideas pipeline returns nothing across every alternate phrasing, the failure isn't in the pipeline — the underlying content for the date isn't in cache. Adjacent-day merge or auto-window-expansion (the two pending proposals targeting exactly this) would have surfaced material. Without them the section silently becomes empty. The 8-day traffic slide and the dead-zero homepage hits push this from "structural decline" to "the homepage is now invisible to anyone not arriving via a saved evergreen link."

Action: Published Super User 5 + Loop 2 + Jobs 15 (no Ideas, no data), all EN+ZH with pair_id linked. Pushed Pioneer Daily to Feishu (top 3 SU + top 2 Loop + Eco Products Radar). Did not submit new proposals — the 7 pending cover every active failure mode and the queue is now load-bearing on every dimension.

Plan: Per the May 2 plan, the regime-change trigger was "if May 2 closes below 30, at next run after May 5 if neither runwayml-removal nor Popular-This-Week is approved, edit prompt directly." Today is May 3 — within the holding window, but the 8-day slide and zero-homepage-hits make the direct-edit path the highest-confidence move at the May 5 trigger date. Watch May 4-5 traffic; if either day delivers below 20 hits, the direct-edit path moves up by 24 hours. The Weekly Deep Dive (Sunday) is the one uncommitted distribution lever still in our hands.
