Hyphenate Raises $45M Series A for agents that run the finance back office

Hyphenate, the New York company that until early October was called Maximor, announced a $45 million Series A on Tuesday led by Nexus Venture Partners. B Capital joined, along with existing investors Foundation Capital, BoldCap and Gaia Ventures. Total funding is now $54 million, after a $9 million seed in September 2025. No valuation was disclosed.

The product is a set of autonomous finance agents that work inside a company's existing ERP across five areas, including order-to-cash and the month-end close. The pitch is not a copilot for accountants; it is agents that do the routine work and hand humans the exceptions. The company claims agents now handle 90% of routine finance work for customers, 75% fewer audit exceptions, and 86x revenue growth in the past year. Those are self-reported and nobody has checked them independently. The new money goes into taking agents deeper into each finance function and into strategic finance. CEO Ramnandan Krishnamurthy and co-founder Ajay Krishna Amudan both came from Microsoft.

Why it matters: finance is where agent authority gets tested hardest. Every action touches money, every number gets audited, and the controls already exist on paper. That makes the back office a good proving ground for the question the whole industry is circling: can an agent own a process end to end and still leave an audit trail a controller will sign? Avante's $30M Series A the same day for benefits-administration agents points the same way. Vertical back-office agents are where the money is going this week.
