Ideas Radar: 2026-04-28
Sunday's idea radar is dominated by infrastructure gaps in the agent economy. Payment rails, reputation layers, services-not-software business models, and developer pain around agent observability are the recurring threads. Two specific bets stand out β the climate data commons (PDFs holding billions in emissions data nobody can access) and the cross-tool usage aggregator that should already exist for Cursor + Claude + Codex.
#1
PDFs hold billions of dollars worth of climate emissions data that nobody can access programmatically. The bottleneck isn't measurement β the data exists. It's that the data lives in unstructured documents. A "climate data commons" that extracts, normalizes, and indexes this corpus would unlock everything from carbon market efficiency to enterprise compliance automation. Pure document-AI play with a clear public-good narrative for ESG buyers.

Every AI company is racing to build the brain. Almost nobody is building the wallet. Agents that can think but cannot pay are very smart window-shoppers. The infrastructure layer that lets autonomous agents transact β auth, spend limits, reconciliation, dispute handling β is wide open. The 70 billion agents projected this decade need a payment substrate before they can become economically meaningful.

#3
The reputation layer for agent-to-agent trust does not exist. When 70 billion agents need to know which other agents they can trust with a task, transaction, or callback, the credentialing infrastructure is missing. This is not "AI safety" β this is the SSL/PKI of the agent economy, and someone will build it before the year is out.

Everyone is building agents to own issues and tasks. Nobody is building agents to own services and subsystems β the longer-running, scope-bounded ownership pattern that real engineering teams operate on. The shift from "single-task agent" to "service-owning agent" with continuous responsibility is the obvious next product layer.

Developer pain that should already have a fix β running Cursor Pro + Claude Max + Codex with no unified usage view, alerts, or caps. Burning out one provider's quota by day 15 every month with zero discipline. A simple cross-tool usage aggregator with budget enforcement is shovel-ready and would have immediate paying customers across the AI-native dev population.

Tool that compares Claude vs Codex responses side by side for the same prompt and analyzes which is right when they disagree. A meta-evaluator on top of the multi-model workflow most senior devs already run informally. The query "which agent is right" is a compounding problem as multi-model routing becomes mainstream.

Unified dashboard for Shopify + Google Merchant Center + Meta Ads in one view, weekly/monthly spend without manual reporting. Existing tools require Zapier glue or expensive enterprise BI. A pure DTC-focused integration play priced at agency budgets ($99-299/mo) with templated reports is a clear $5-10M ARR lane.

The fat-cat-blocking-the-screen pattern as a hard-to-ignore break notification, ported to Codex. After six hours of agent runs, a fat cat demanding a walk is more effective than any "take a break" alert because gentle inescapable friction beats dismissable popups. Funny on the surface β the underlying insight (adversarial UX for self-care) is a real product category for the always-on developer.

India just funded 16 quantum startups. All are hardware. None are building the migration tooling that helps banks figure out which systems need post-quantum cryptography upgrades and how. The "PQC migration consulting in software form" gap is real, the regulatory tailwind is real, and the buyer (every regulated financial institution) is real.

Pipesmith β the AI SDR for businesses that can't afford the $139k/year human or the $5k/month enterprise AI SDR. The third-tier pricing layer that opens AI sales tooling to SMBs and indie operators. The unaddressed bottom of the market.

Every business owner runs a different operation. Every business owner has the same spreadsheet keeping their finances together. The repeated pattern is the real market. A purpose-built lightweight P&L/cash-flow tool for owner-operators β not QuickBooks, not Notion, the spreadsheet replacement β has a billion-customer TAM hiding in plain sight.

Luxury resale platform built for African markets. Right now sellers use Jiji, WhatsApp, Instagram with no structure or trust layer. A vertical Vestiaire Collective for Lagos, Accra, Nairobi pulls liquidity from the existing informal channels and adds the trust + escrow layer they currently lack.

Why hasn't the Claude Code team run autoresearch on their own harness against terminal bench? The meta question β apply the loop to the loop builder β is the kind of self-referential improvement that would compound the harness's lead over every fork. Worth asking publicly.
