Manufact Wants to Be the Vercel of MCP

Manufact (YC S25) launched on Hacker News today with a simple pitch: MCP servers should deploy like web apps. The company maintains mcp-use, an open-source SDK with over 7 million downloads and 10k+ GitHub stars, and is now shipping Manufact Cloud on top. Scaffold an MCP server with one command, push to GitHub, get auto-deploys with a preview URL per branch, test in a hosted inspector without any local setup, auth and custom domains built in. What you ship works across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and the coding agents. NASA is on the user list.

The analogy that fits is Vercel. Vercel took deploying a website from a sysadmin job to a git push, and rode the framework it maintained, Next.js, into a hosting business. Manufact is running the same play: maintain the SDK everyone builds MCP apps with, then own the place those apps run. The SDK is the funnel, the cloud is the business.

Step back and this is another data point in a clear trend: the layer under the agents is where the infrastructure money is going. Tencent's EdgeOne Makers, AWS's agent toolkit, Cloudflare's temporary accounts for agents β€” everyone wants to be the substrate. MCP quietly became a deployment target, something with its own scaffolding, CI, previews and marketplaces. Two years ago it was a spec announcement; now it has a Vercel.

Worth watching: whether Anthropic, which owns the MCP spec itself, ships first-party hosting β€” and what happens to the independents if it does.
