DeepSeek Harness hits 1.54M daily users, and the plugins are the real product

92 trillion tokens a day. That is what DeepSeek says its agent app, DeepSeek Harness, burned as of November 4, across 1.54 million daily active users. And that only counts people on the official API. DeepSeek posted the numbers on X on Sunday, Nov 8, in an article called "Growing Together with Our Plugin Community", and Bloomberg picked it up a few hours later.

The timeline is short. v0.1 went live on August 13, the desktop app shipped September 29. Bloomberg puts daily users at about 271,000 at the end of September, so that is more than a 5x jump in about five weeks, all by DeepSeek's own count and none of it audited.

The more interesting number is the plugin one. DeepSeek counts about 35,000 third-party plugins, and says roughly 60% of active users have built or installed at least one. The examples it chose say a lot: a creator workbench that runs from script to cover image, a design plugin that turns an article into a web page or image card and keeps your past work, a literature tool that ties reference management, translation and notes together. One author puts it plainly: the plugin system "gives you far more than skills can", because it can keep your past work, content series and writing style over time.

So DeepSeek is now promising a more stable plugin API, "strengthen plugin security", an official marketplace, and a support program for plugin authors with token grants and promotion. The sign-up form only collects interest for now, and rules come later. Its stated ambition is for Harness to be "the operating system of the agent era", with the base capabilities built in and the specialized workflows left to plugin authors.

Read it as an app store moment, with the app store's problems attached. Thirty-five thousand plugins installed by most users, before a marketplace or a review process exists, is exactly the supply-chain surface that has bitten every ecosystem from npm to browser extensions. The marketplace is the right move. The order is backwards.
