Netlify.new Agent Runners: From Prompt to Production-Ready Web App in Minutes

Netlify launched Agent Runners on March 18, enabling teams to start a new web project from a natural language prompt at netlify.new and have a live, deployed application on Netlify within minutes. Users choose from Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI as the coding agent, then describe what they want to build.

The system is built on Anthropic's Model Context Protocol. The Netlify MCP Server gives agents direct access to the Netlify API and CLI, allowing them to create projects, deploy applications, and manage infrastructure programmatically. Netlify's platform capabilities — serverless functions, Identity, Blobs, Forms, and AI Gateway — are available from the start, so teams can move beyond a prototype without manually stitching together infrastructure.

A new Internal Builder seat provides governance and role-based access, allowing product managers, designers, marketers, and other non-engineering teams to build with agents inside their Netlify organization. This extends the agentic workflow beyond developers to the broader organization.

Netlify.new represents the convergence of two major trends in the agentic ecosystem: coding agents that can build complete applications, and deployment platforms that are fully agent-operable. Instead of agents generating code that humans then manually deploy, the entire pipeline from idea to production is agent-driven.
