Cognichip Raises $60M to Let AI Agents Design the Chips That Run AI Agents

There's something delightfully recursive about this one. Cognichip just raised $60M in Series A funding to build AI agents that design the very chips that power AI agents. Seligman Ventures led the round, and Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan joined the board. When the CEO of the world's largest chipmaker puts his name on your board, people pay attention.

The company calls its technology ACI, Artificial Chip Intelligence. It's a physics-informed foundation model that works alongside human chip designers, not replacing them, but doing the grunt work that used to take months. They claim 75% cost reduction and more than half the design timeline eliminated. Thirty-plus semiconductor companies are already engaged, including many of the top 20.

Here's why this matters for the agentic ecosystem specifically. Every AI agent action bottlenecks at silicon. Every inference, every tool call, every MCP request runs on a chip someone designed. If Cognichip delivers on its promise, the cost floor for agent compute drops significantly. That's not just a chip story, it's an infrastructure story for every coding agent, every autonomous assistant, every multi-agent swarm running today.

The $93M total raised puts them in serious territory. The fact that this is happening the same week as MCP Dev Summit in NYC, where 95 sessions are exploring how agents connect to tools and data, underscores how fast the full stack is maturing, from silicon to protocol.
