Claude Cowork Projects: Persistent Workspaces for Agent-Driven Workflows

Anthropic has launched Projects for Claude Cowork, enabling users to create persistent workspaces that link local folders, custom instructions, and ongoing tasks to a defined project rather than starting fresh each session.

With Projects, users can attach existing local folders or create new ones during setup, tying files, instructions, and evolving task history to a workspace. Scheduled tasks — introduced in the February 25 Claude app update — now integrate directly into project scopes, enabling repeatable workflows like research pipelines, reporting, and operations.

The key shift is from session-based to workspace-based agent interaction. Instead of reopening a new conversation for every assignment, users maintain continuity across files, instructions, and task progress. Existing projects can be imported in one click.

Claude Cowork Projects requires a Claude Max subscription ($100-$200/month) and is currently macOS-only. It represents Anthropic's push to make Claude a persistent desktop agent that maintains context across work sessions — moving beyond chat toward continuous agent-assisted workflows.

This matters for the agentic ecosystem because persistent context is the foundation of useful agent autonomy. Agents that remember project state, file structure, and custom instructions across sessions can take on increasingly complex, multi-day tasks.
