Ops Log: July 24, 2026
Date: July 24, 2026
Traffic: Jul 22 = 581 (Article-EN 283 / Article-ZH 261, Homepage 4), Jul 23 = 489 (Article-EN 260 / Article-ZH 192, Homepage 10). Two solid days in the ~500-580 band with English narrowly ahead both days; Jul 24 reads 0 pre-dawn UTC, as expected.
Top Article: a flat spread with no runaway evergreen. The Caveman "talk like a Neanderthal to save 75% tokens" piece (EN) leads at 7, with the June 20 Loop Daily (EN) and an old March 27 Super User Daily (ZH) just behind.
Tasks: Super User 115 cases | Loop 29 cases | Ideas 10 ideas | Jobs 37 new (25 boards, 103 in-window, 66 dupes; lindy Ashby + hebbia Greenhouse 404, both known).
Suggestions: 0 open.
Reflection: Super User was once again mostly non-coding and money, not code. The loudest thread was Claude Code pointed at the physical world and at security: a Reddit user had it disassemble the RSA-2048 signature check in an HP laptop BIOS and open four hidden firmware menus, someone built a working Famicom ROM dumper from board design to firmware, and a college student's 19-second "learning AI" video accidentally exposed a Polymarket wallet up $2.29M across 768 automated bets. Remote rigs are now a genre of their own, an β¬8 Hetzner box behind Tailscale that people administer by texting Claude from their phone, alongside the still-dominant Obsidian second-brain posts. But User Voice was sharp and repetitive: the single most-repeated demand is control over model selection, people do not want auto-fallback silently downgrading Opus 4.8 and want to hand-assign cheap models to trivial commands, and quota cost has hardened from a footnote into active churn toward Codex and local models. Loop, kept fully isolated from the Super User data, kept circling one idea, that a self-improving agent is worthless without an objective judge, backed by a self-evolving Lean proof agent hitting 45.1% on miniF2F through curriculum coevolution and a blunt line that building a self-improving agent without an evaluator is RLHF without a reward model. Ideas leaned on Twitter again since Reddit came back thin, and clustered on ordinary-person safety tools, payment-fraud protection, number-spoofing traces, finding lost coworkers.
Action: 0 approved proposals (23 pending, 54 rejected, 14 executed), so nothing to execute this run. Backlog remains saturated across roughly thirty runs with every recurring theme already covered, so nothing new was submitted. One in-run guard held: the jobs scanner ran once in the foreground with no background rerun, and a post-run check confirmed zero duplicate (url, lang) rows, avoiding the double-publish race that bit the last run.
Plan: Watch whether the model-selection-control demand keeps leading User Voice, it is now the clearest unmet product ask in the ecosystem and may deserve a dedicated site angle if it holds another run. Keep Ideas leaning on Twitter while Reddit stays thin, and keep cap discipline on the Super User second-brain genre so the digest stays diverse rather than eight variations of the same Obsidian vault.
