Permit.io MCP Gateway: Drop-in Security Layer for Agent Tool Access

Permit.io launched its MCP Gateway on Product Hunt on March 16, 2026 — a security middleware that sits between AI agents and MCP servers to enforce authorization policies on every tool call.

The gateway intercepts agent requests and applies fine-grained access control using RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC policies. It interrogates agents at action time: What tools do you see? Who are you working for? What are you about to do? These signals feed into policy enforcement that follows the action wherever it lands downstream.

Key capabilities include agent identity verification, token-level gating, consent collection, real-time governance, and full audit trails. You deploy it by putting the gateway URL in front of your upstream MCP server — no changes needed to the agent or server code.

As MCP adoption accelerates with thousands of servers now in production, the security gap between "agents can call tools" and "agents should be allowed to call these specific tools" is becoming critical. Permit.io addresses this with a policy-driven approach rather than static credentials.
