WordPress.com Opens MCP Write Access: AI Agents Can Now Manage 70M Monthly Posts

WordPress.com announced on March 20 that AI agents can now create, edit, and publish content on WordPress.com sites through its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Previously limited to read-only access, the update introduces 19 new writing abilities across six content types: posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and media.

AI agents including Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can now draft and publish posts with design-aware formatting, manage comments, organize content through categories and tags, update media metadata for accessibility, and build landing pages that inherit the site's design system. Users connect through the WordPress.com MCP dashboard at wordpress.com/me/mcp — no additional installation required.

Safety controls are robust: every change requires explicit user approval, new content defaults to draft status, deletions are recoverable for 30 days, all actions are logged in the Activity Log, and WordPress role permissions are fully enforced. Individual operations can be toggled on or off for granular control.

This is significant for the agentic ecosystem because WordPress.com hosts 70 million new posts per month, making it one of the largest content platforms on the web. Giving agents write access to this scale of infrastructure turns WordPress into a major agent-operable platform.
