Hyperprobe Lets Coding Agents Debug Production, Read-Only
Coding agents write the bug fix in minutes, then wait four hours for a human to figure out what the bug actually was. Hyperprobe, a YC S26 startup that hit number 4 on Product Hunt with 212 upvotes, goes after exactly that gap: it lets Claude Code, Codex and Cursor attach to your production services and see live variable state, without redeploying, restarting, or being allowed to touch anything.
The mechanism is virtual breakpoints β read-only probes dropped into a running service that capture the state your logs never recorded. An SDK sits in the service (Node, Python, Java, Kotlin), an MCP server sits on the other side, and the agent drives the debugging loop itself: drop a probe, read the state, form a hypothesis, drop the next probe. Read-only is enforced at the runtime level, on Node via V8's throwOnSideEffect, so a probe physically cannot mutate your service. Overhead is 7-10ms on Node, 4-9ms on Python, 1-2ms on Java. It runs in your VPC.
The target is the worst class of production bug: the silent logic failure. No exception, no stack trace, just wrong responses, race conditions, duplicate processing. The founders claim a payments bug that took 4 hours of human archaeology got root-caused in 9.5 minutes. Skeptics in the Launch HN thread pointed at Rollbar and AppSignal overlap, and at the real risk of an agent producing a confident wrong diagnosis β fair, but observability tools show you what broke, they don't run the investigation loop.
