freellmapi Stitches 34 Free Tiers Into 7.4 Billion Tokens a Month
The route-around-the-frontier movement has a new piece of infrastructure. freellmapi, trending on GitHub at 21.6k stars, aggregates the free tiers of 34 LLM providers — Google, Groq, Mistral, OpenRouter, Cohere and 29 more — into one OpenAI-compatible endpoint: 635 free model endpoints, roughly 7.4 billion tokens a month if you max everything out. It's more engineered than the usual key-juggling script: smart routing picks models by speed and reliability scores, failed requests auto-retry on alternative providers with cooldowns, per-key rate tracking keeps you inside each free quota, keys sit AES-encrypted in SQLite, and there's a dashboard, a playground and Claude Code integration. The maintainers are refreshingly honest about what it is: for personal experimentation and learning, not production — free tiers have no SLA and are not a stable inference substrate.
The pattern is what matters. free-claude-code arbitrages token tiers across 49 providers, sub2api converts subscriptions into API access, and now this formalizes the free-tier commons into a single meter. Every provider's marketing budget — the free tier — is being pooled by open-source middleware into a de facto free global inference layer.
