openclaude Runs Claude Code on Anything, and Google Just Showed Why That Matters

openclaude is on its second straight day on GitHub trending, +453 stars today on a 32.3k base. What it is: Claude Code's open codebase, substantially rewritten to run against 20+ providers β€” OpenAI, DeepSeek, Groq, Mistral, GLM, Gemini, GitHub Models, Ollama, local backends, anything OpenAI-compatible. One CLI, one workflow, tools and MCP and slash commands included, and you point it at whatever model you own or rent cheapest. There's even a pixel-art companion that reacts to your input, because of course there is.

The timing writes the argument for it. The same day openclaude trended, a story hit Hacker News at 236 points: Google Antigravity's terms of service let Google suspend your entire Google account for third-party usage of the agent. Read those side by side. One side of the industry is welding the harness to the account system; the community is answering by prying the harness loose from every vendor at once.

This is the infrastructure version of a fight we covered with free-claude-code (https://clauday.com/article/ecc6355d-5bc1-4051-a96b-b9fd4d7428f9) β€” routing around the frontier, but grown up: 1,196 commits, provider profiles, MIT license on the modifications. The legal footing of MIT-relicensing a fork of Anthropic's code is genuinely murky, and Anthropic hasn't said a word yet. But 32k stars say the demand is real: people want the best harness without marrying the vendor.
