Octen Raises $10M Seed for Web-Search Infrastructure Built for Agents
Octen launched April 22 with $10 million in seed funding, building search infrastructure designed for AI agents rather than humans. The pitch is mechanical: existing web search APIs assume a person reads ten blue links and decides. Agents need structured, ranked, query-specific results delivered fast enough to not break a reasoning loop, and they tend to hammer search at much higher volumes than human traffic ever did.
The category is real. Every serious agent system is rate-limited and quality-limited by its retrieval layer. Tavily and Exa got there first, Brave and Perplexity have their own answers, and now Octen is the next entrant betting that purpose-built agent search is a separate market from human search. The $10M seed is small, but the timing aligns with the broader thesis that agent infrastructure (memory, identity, search, payments) is its own stack worth funding round by round.
