MoonPay MoonAgents Card: A Mastercard Debit Card for AI Agents
MoonPay announced MoonAgents Card on May 1 — a virtual Mastercard debit card that lets AI agents spend stablecoins from a self-custodial onchain wallet at any Mastercard-accepting merchant. The card converts crypto to fiat at point of purchase, no pre-loaded balance required. Live today through MoonPay CLI in the UK and LATAM. US and EU coming.
The infrastructure choice is what makes this interesting. Most agent-payment plays so far have been custodial wrappers — you fund a balance, the agent draws from it, the platform sits in the middle. MoonAgents Card uses Monavate as the Mastercard issuer but ties spending to a self-custodial wallet via smart contract authorization. The user can revoke agent spending access at any moment, on chain, without asking MoonPay to do anything. That is a structurally different trust model from a Stripe card on file.
This sits inside the broader stack MoonPay has been building over the past year: MoonPay CLI (crypto payments via terminal), MoonPay Agents (autonomous workflows with Ledger-secured hardware signing), and the Open Wallet Standard launched in March with Ethereum Foundation, Solana Foundation, and PayPal among 15+ supporters.
