Meta Muse Spark: The Post-Llama Era Begins

Meta just dropped its first model since Alexandr Wang took the reins at Meta Superintelligence Labs. Nine months of work, and the result is Muse Spark — a natively multimodal reasoning model that does something none of its predecessors did well: orchestrate multiple agents in parallel.

The architecture is genuinely different from Llama. Muse Spark accepts voice, text, and image inputs, then dispatches sub-agents to handle different parts of a request simultaneously. Meta calls this Contemplating mode — multiple agents reasoning in parallel to boost output quality. The numbers: 58% on Humanity's Last Exam, 38% on FrontierScience Research. And Meta claims over an order of magnitude less compute than Llama 4 Maverick during pretraining.

The personal superintelligence framing is bold. Zuckerberg is positioning this as a world-class assistant for visual understanding, health, shopping, games — basically everything Meta's 3 billion users do daily. They collaborated with over 1,000 physicians for health data. Apollo Research found the model frequently identifies evaluation scenarios as alignment traps and reasons it should behave honestly — an interesting emergent behavior.

The real signal here isn't the benchmarks. It's that Meta is moving from open-source Llama to a proprietary model family, and building it around multi-agent orchestration from day one. Every other frontier lab bolted agents onto existing models. Meta built agents into the architecture. Whether that matters in practice remains to be seen, but the intent is clear.
