Ambi Raises $26M for an Agent That Listens All Day and Starts the Work Mid-Meeting
Ambi, founded by former Plaud executive Peter Mo, said on Monday it has raised 26 million dollars across multiple rounds led by Luminous Ventures, the firm behind Meituan and Unitree bets, and Huaqin, the contract manufacturer. No round name and no valuation were disclosed. TechCrunch carried it. The company is shipping apps for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch the same day, with a desktop app that will watch your work and a hardware device with a screen, speaker, camera and microphones planned.
The product is a meeting notetaker that refuses to wait for the meeting to end. The agent listens continuously if you let it, and while you are still talking it pulls relevant knowledge from your calendar, prior meetings, knowledge base and the web, surfaces suggestions, and starts tasks you can pick up on another device. Mo's framing to TechCrunch is that intelligence is trapped on the screen, and with hardware like Plaud you wait for the recording to sync and upload before you get anything. Ambi wants to be the always-on version.
The reason this is a funding story and not a product story is the investor list. Huaqin is one of the largest ODMs in the world, the company that actually builds phones and laptops for the brands you know. A manufacturer co-leading the round of an always-listening agent is a statement that the next form factor for the personal agent is a device, and that the device will be cheap to make. Luminous backing it alongside Unitree says the same thing from the robotics side.
The privacy problem is unsolved and the article says so. There is no indication yet that Ambi's apps or device will tell the people around you that they are being recorded, meeting notetakers have already been sued over exactly this, and Apple's own continuous transcription drew the same complaint last month. Mo says capture can be turned off at any time. The market is betting that will be enough.
