A Free Mystery Model Called Ox Alpha, and Everyone Thinks It's GLM
An anonymous model named Ox Alpha showed up free on OpenRouter last Thursday, and the AI crowd has not stopped arguing about it since. The listing calls it a reasoning model built for coding, sustained agentic work, and production loads, with a 1M-token context window and text, image, and video input. It says only that it was made by a third-party provider who wants to stay anonymous during the preview. Free for about a week. That is the whole official story, which is exactly why it went viral.
The detective work is the fun part. Independent fingerprinting keeps pointing at Zhipu's GLM-5.3, probably the Flash variant. Early guesses ran through the usual Chinese labs, and a few people floated an unreleased Microsoft MAI, but no consensus. A viral 10-task DeepSWE run put it at 80 percent, ahead of Fable 5 at 65 and GPT-5.6-sol at 52, while a separate private benchmark rated it near two-generation-old models, so take the numbers with salt.
