X Square Robot Raises $276M Series B Led by Xiaomi and Sequoia China

X Square Robot closed a Series B of roughly 276 million dollars, led by Xiaomi and Sequoia China. Three months ago they closed a 140 million dollar round. That is over 400 million of capital into a company most agent readers probably have not heard of, because the embodied agent world has been louder in Silicon Valley than in Beijing. That is ending fast.

What they build is boring on the surface. Humanoid systems and the foundation models underneath. But the deployment story is where it gets interesting. Education. Hospitality. Elder care. A partnership with 58.com to explore household services. In other words, they are not waiting for the AGI moment to sell robots. They are taking early revenue from niches where a not-quite-perfect robot is still cheaper than a human, and using that money to train the foundation model that eventually does everything.

That matters because the agent thesis so far has been almost entirely digital. A language model controlling a browser. A coding agent working on a codebase. X Square's bet is that the same RL loop that turned coding agents into real workers is about to play out for physical agents, and that the Chinese industrial base plus Xiaomi's hardware supply chain will make this cheaper in China than anywhere else. Sequoia China back. Xiaomi lead. This is a coordinated bet.

The interesting meta-signal. Xiaomi is simultaneously the lead investor here and a co-submitter on some of the top agent research papers landing this week. One month ago they led OneVL out of Xiaomi Research. Today they are pumping 276 million into embodied foundation models. Lei Jun decided the agent platform war is Xiaomi's to lose, and he is not being subtle.
